October 5th marks the inaugural Energy Efficiency Day, (#EEDay2016) a collaborative effort of regional and national organizations to increase energy efficiency awareness.
While there are many things you can do to save energy, we’d like to challenge you to do something very simple that can have a very big impact:
Check the Energy Score before you make your next appliance purchase.
Why is efficiency important? While solar, wind, and other forms of clean energy continue to come online everyday, the most efficient source of energy is the one you never use. According to our friends at the Midwest Energy Efficiency Alliance, the U.S. has already successfully avoided the need to build 313 new large power plants since 1990 as a result of energy efficiency in action.
It’s clear to many that choosing an efficient product pays off, but it’s not always easy to know which products are the most efficient. At Enervee, our mission is to make the efficient choice the easy choice.
To make sense of our options as consumers, we developed the Enervee Decision Engine, which takes more than 40,000+ products and assigns them an Energy Score (Or Enervee Score!) on a simple 0–100 scale based on their energy efficiency.
You can compare products using the Enervee Marketplace, or on one of the many utility-branded marketplaces powered by Enervee — where you can also check for efficiency incentives supplied by utilities that can further bring down costs on efficient products.
In honor of Energy Efficiency Day, consider making sure your next appliance purchase has an Energy Score of 90+. Not only will this save you money, but the savings on aggregate can have a huge impact on the world.
We’ve calculated that if just 30% of US consumers who are looking to buy a refrigerator, washer, dryer or dishwasher in a year bought a model with an Energy Score of 90+ instead of a less efficient model, this would deliver energy savings of almost 10,000 GWh over the next 15 years — from purchases this year alone.
